What does a tower contractor GL policy cover that a standard GL does not?

A specialty tower contractor GL policy is designed specifically for the exposures of elevated telecommunications work. Key differences from standard GL include: no height exclusion of any kind, coverage for work on structures owned by others (critical since tower contractors rarely own the towers they work on), coverage for damage to existing equipment on the tower during installation or modification, RF exposure liability for work near active antennas, rigging and hoisting operations coverage, and coverage for damage caused by dropped tools or materials from elevation. Standard GL policies often exclude or sublimit many of these exposures even before the height exclusion. A specialty program also understands the MSA ecosystem and includes blanket additional insured, primary and noncontributory wording, per-project aggregate, and waiver of subrogation as standard features rather than expensive add-ons. The underwriters in specialty tower programs also understand class code distinctions between erection, maintenance, and ground work, allowing proper rating of mixed-crew operations rather than applying the highest rate to all payroll.
